The mechanism of the emergency brake has to be checked periodically. Install the car on a slope, turn on the emergency brake, include neutral transfer and check that the car is kept only by the emergency brake (the pedal of a brake is released). Blocks of the emergency brake in cars with back disk brakes as a rule do not demand replacement during all term of operation of the car. However, they can wear out owing to the wrong adjustment of the brake system, or because of regular use of the emergency brake for a car stop. The extreme size of wear of blocks of the emergency brake is not normalized, however it is recommended to change them if the residual thickness of blocks less than 1,5 mm. Check a condition of springs and the mechanism of the regulator, and also check a condition of a drum, existence on it deep development of scratches and other damages.
