9.14. The forward aligning plug

GENERAL INFORMATION

The aligning plug (arrow)

The aligning plug (arrow) is pressed in a forward end face of the driveshaft. At wear of the plug from a forward part of a shaft the increased noise is listened.

Check and replacement

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. For check of a condition of the plug shake the driveshaft in the cross direction, having turned off bolts and nuts of fastening of the elastic coupling to a check point shaft flange. If the noticeable side play is felt, then replace the plug.
Prevention

On a part of cars the plug is closed by a dustproof cover which is sometimes deformed at removal of the driveshaft. Damage of a cover should not be considered a consequence of wear of the plug, damage of a cover also does not affect a condition of the aligning plug.


2. Remove the driveshaft.
3. Remove the plug from the driveshaft with hydroblow, having filled with dense lubricant a cavity of the plug and having struck the mandrel with a diameter about 14 mm inserted into the plug.
4. Grease the new plug with molybdenic lubricant and press in the driveshaft. After a press fitting the edge of the plug has to defend from a driveshaft end face on 4,5 mm.
